Contemporary Arts from the OPW State Art Collection and the Northern Ireland Civil Service Collection.
Connections is an exhibition that invites individuals to transition from being a viewer who is merely exposed to art, to being a participant who engages with the exhibition to find their own meaning. Rather than presenting a predetermined narrative, the exhibition encourages viewers to trust their senses and form their own understanding of the artworks.
Showcasing 63 mixed media works from the OPW State Art Collection and the Northern Ireland Civil Service Collection, the artworks chosen are not connected by theme, style era or medium. These seemingly unconnected artworks explore the concept of the domino effect, illustrating how one artwork can seamlessly transition into another while highlighting the interconnectedness of art and its broader social context. The end goal of the exhibition is to give participants a platform to form their own connections. Viewers are encouraged to engage with the art on their own terms through identifying a visual link between one piece and the next – be it a similar shape, theme, colour.
