Arthur Guinness – Brewer of The First (Guinness) Pint – Born in 1725 (300 years ago)

May 9 @ 2.30pm - 3.30pm

The front of Farmleigh house, a Georgian house with a grand porch, obscured by some trees

This talk is presented as part of the Culture Date with Dublin 8 festival.

Arthur founder of a brewery that would one day become the largest in the world.   He moved from a very different life in a bishop’s house in Celbridge Co Kildare to Dublin,  a city not for the fainthearted in the mid 18th century.   I hope to give you some thoughts on a man who founded a dynasty of clergymen, fashion designers, actors and ‘society people’ – a name that conjures up thoughts of both ‘The Pint’ and ‘Wealth and  featured in gossip columns almost more often than the business pages.

Tickets will be allocated in Courtyard Reception on a first come first served basis.
