RTÉ LYRIC FM’s 20th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION featuring EVELYN GRANT’S WEEKEND DRIVE – LOOKING TO THE FUTURE

Celebrate RTÉ Lyric FM’s 20th birthday in the company of some of Ireland’s finest young musicians, live from the Ballroom of Farmleigh House, when Evelyn Grant presents a concert featuring pianist Kevin Jansson performing Rachmaninov’s ‘Piano Sonata No. 2’, following which he will be joined by cellist Killian White to play Franck’s ‘Sonata in A for Piano and Cello’. Kevin is the recipient of many international awards, most recently first prize at the Jeune Chopin competition in Switzerland, while Killian is the winner of the 2018 RDS Music Bursary, the largest of its kind in Europe. In the second half of the concert, these brilliant young performers will be will be joined by their musical peers Mairéad Hickey (violin), Ed Creedon (viola) and Aura Stone (double bass) for a performance of Schubert’s ‘Piano Quintet in A ‘Trout’ (‘Die Forelle’)”.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE BALLROOM DOORS WILL OPEN FOR AT 3.15PM AND THIS CONCERT WILL BE BROADCAST LIVE ON RTÉ LYRIC FM AT 4PM.

TICKET HOLDERS MUST BE SEATED BEFORE 4PM AND WILL NOT BE ADMITTED ONCE THE CONCERT STARTS.

Additionally, at 2pm, why not join the free Culture File Debate, in the Kitchen Cabinet Room at Farmleigh House, where Luke Clancy and a panel of guests will discuss how music in Ireland has changed in the two decades since the start of RTÉ Lyric FM in 1999. Has the landscape for musicians, ensembles, composers and producers and fans improved? Or are the same old struggles of a small island still be lived? How have shifts in technology impacted? Have we addressed the ageing audience problem? Has classical music become more part of everyday life, or less?

This event is supported by Precision Pianos, Ireland’s premiere piano showroom.
