OPERA WINTER WARMERS with AMY NÍ FHEARRAIGH (soprano) & DAVID HOWES (bass baritone), accompanied by AOIFE O’SULLIVAN (piano)
Amy Ní Fhearraigh was chosen as one of GoldenPlec’s Ones to Watch 2018. She graduated from the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama with first class honours and is one of four Young Artists in Irish National Opera’s 2018-2019 Studio. Roles include Barbarina in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro (Irish National Opera), Mrs. Julian in Britten’s Owen Wingrave (Opera Collective Ireland), Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, the title role in Handel’s Susanna, and Drusilla in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea (DIT Opera Ensemble), Lucinde in Gluck’s Armide (The Yorke Trust) and Frasquita in Bizet’s Carmen (Lyric Opera Productions). She made her RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra debut in a live broadcast on Lorcan Murray’s Classic Drive on RTÉ lyric fm. She has performed in the annual Glasthule Opera Gala under David Brophy, for the inaugural Rising Stars Concert in the University Concert Hall, and the Cahersiveen Festival of Music and the Arts with the INO Orchestra conducted by Killian Farrell.
David Howes is a Bass-Baritone from Limerick, where he began his studies with Olive Cowpar. He now studies with Robert Dean and is a graduate of the distinguished Young Artist Programme with Northern Ireland Opera. In opera, David has had the honour of premiering the roles of Jack and Flynn in the world premier of Andrew Synott’s Dubliners and also “Rose” in John O Brien’s Nightingale and The Rose. Other roles include those from Rigoletto, Der Schauespieldirektor, Madame Butterfly, la boheme, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, La Traviata, Silent Night, Tosca, and le nozze di Figaro with companies such as Lyric Opera, OTC, Buxton Opera Festival, Zezere Arts Festival, Irish National Opera, and Wexford Opera Festival. Highlights in oratorio include baritone solos in Puccini’s Messa Di Gloria and Brahms’ Requiem, bass solos in Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Mozart’s Coronation Mass in C, Haydn’s Nelson Mass and The Creation, as well as Handel’s Messiah, Dettingen Te Deum and Dixit Dominus with the Irish Chamber Orchestra. In recital, David has performed at the Kilkenny Arts Festival in a new edition of Beethoven’s Irish Airs, lunchtime concerts at St. Mary’s Cathedral and The Rua Centre, Dublin, and also, Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzer in the John Field Room. Additional engagements included Mozart’s Requiem and C minor Mass with Limerick Choral Union in April 2019.
