LARA MARLOWE – ‘MY FRANCE’
The Irish Times’ correspondent in France was a child in California when her mother brought home a souvenir Eiffel Tower and a scarf showing the monuments of Paris. A five-year-old’s fascination with tourist trinkets grew into a lifelong vocation. After a year at the Sorbonne, Marlowe earned degrees at UCLA and Oxford. She started a career in journalism in Paris and spent eight years in Beirut. But France always pulled her back. July 14th will mark Marlowe’s first Bastille Day as a French citizen. She will tell us what she has learned from France, and why she cannot leave Paris.
