Bees Make Honey – Beekeeping with Keith Pierce
Dublin master beekeeper Keith Pierce has a passion for bees. He has been beekeeping in Dublin for over 25 years, successfully collaborating with our country’s unique Dark Native Irish honey bees (Apis Mellifera Mellifera). His hives and their busy occupants are kept on the outskirts of Dublin city, with the bees foraging over the extensive area of the Phoenix Park, the Liffey Valley, and in the gardens of suburban Castleknock.
Join Keith this afternoon for his talk and demonstration, to hear about the joys of his sweet obsession, as well as to learn about the best ways to preserve the naturally biodiverse and pollinator-rich environments that we can all personally create. This talk will help develop an understanding that, through the planting of bee-friendly flowering plants, we can help preserve this extraordinary insect from threats of eradication and extinction, a creature whose own healthy life and future security has now and will have into the future such a profound influence on our own.
