GABRIEL ROSENSTOCK / ‘MAHATMA’ – a bilingual photo-haiku project, in Irish and English
Poet and haikuist Gabriel Rosenstock has created a visual presentation of a forthcoming book to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, which occurs on the 2nd October of this year. ‘Mahmata’ is a bilingual photo-haiku project, in Irish and English, which celebrates the life of someone whose vision is sorely needed today.
Gandhian principles helped to shape modern sensibilities in many ways, influencing Martin Luther King in the USA and the Civil Rights Movement in Ireland and elsewhere. An expert on Gandhi says of this unique project: “I was moved and enchanted by Gabriel Rosenstock’s haiku on Gandhi. They run the range of human (and Mahatma-ic) emotions, from sorrow to happiness, solemnity to mischief. They deserve, and will surely get, a wide readership across the world.” – Ramachandra Guha, author of ‘Gandhi: The Years That Changed The World’ (Knopf).
Gabriel will be joined by the editor of the project, Kashmiri-born poet Rafiq Kathwari, winner of the Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award 2013.
Farmleigh estate will host its annual India Day on Sunday 1st September.
Beidh fáilte mór croíúil roimh chách.
